This is by far the largest group of the macro-fungi. It contains the familiar mushrooms and toadstools.
Gilled fungi can be found gowing in forests, grasslands and even on dung and old bones. Some gilled fungi can be eaten, but many Australian species are poisonous.
Most gilled fungi species are referred to as Agarics, as they belong to the fungal order Agaricales. However, some species of gilled fungi belong to other orders, such as Russulales, Boletales and even Polyporales.
