Jolene McLellan - Interpretation/Public Contact Ranger, Girraween National Park - has written a booklet on the history of the park.

With her permission, we have reproduced most of her booklet here and added to it some extra material from other sources.

Memories of Girraween

The following section contains a mix of historical material; including candid, personal accounts of Girraween's history. Some of the information might now be outdated and some names and dates may be incorrect.

40th Anniversary

Girraween National Park had its 40th anniversary in 2006.

During the celebrations, John Cowburn - the park's Ranger In Charge - conducted a series of candid interviews with some of Girraween's earlier guardians.

Bill has had a strong and intimate connection with Girraween for over eighty years.

Tom Ryan

Tom was Girraween's first Overseer, 1966-1972.
