These Water Beetles are also known as Minute Moss Beetles.
Hydraenids are very small (1-3 mm long) beetles that eat algae and live in water. The water can be still or running fresh water, or it can be rock pools by the sea or salt lakes. They have also been found in the nests of sea birds.
There are 8 genera and 55 species known in Australia. So far, only one species has been identified as being in Girraween.
