Anax papuensis
Australian Emperor

Conservation status: Least Concern


This species is found Australia-wide and its older scientific name is Hemianax papuensis. It is often found far away from water.

It is a large dragonfly, with a wingspan of up to 110mm. It is a strong, fast flyer and is known to patrol up and down lakes.

Adults are pale brown to yellow in colour, with dark brown mottling and dark ladder-like markings along the abdomen. The wings are clear.
