Conservation status: Least Concern


This species is very widespread across eastern Australia. It prefers swamps, ponds and slow moving rivers, but it can often be found a long way away from water.

Mature adults are black and blue in colour. Males are brighter in colour and the last segment of a male's abdomen is blue. Immature females can be quite brown in colour. The wingspan is 40 to 45 mm.
