This species has been found in every state and territory of Australia, except in the Northern Territory.

It is a medium-sized dragonfly with a wingspan of up to 70 mm.

Colours are metallic black with dull yellow markings. The wings are clear. This species also has brilliant green eyes that meet on top of head.
