Dagger Orchid
© Girraween National Park, 2009.

This flower might look to be upside down, but it's not!
Dockrillia pugioniformis is a non-resupinate flowering orchid (as are all Dockrillia).
"Non-resupinate" means the labellum, or lip, of the flower is uppermost - that is, the flower does not turn around 180 degrees as it is opening. This is unusual, as the majority of orchids do turn as they open. These are known as "resupinate" flowers.
