Conifers

Conifers are plants with woody stems that produce seed-bearing cones. Most conifers are trees or shrubs. They are a very ancient type of plant. The earliest fossil records of conifers date back to about 300 million years ago - a time before there were any flowering plants (about 125 million years ago) or even dinosaurs (about 230 million years ago).

There are 8 families of conifers, however, the species found in Girraween National Park all belong to the same family - Cupressaceae, the cypresses.
